Press ReleasesThe President is attending OSCE Summit in AstanaWednesday, December 1, Astana - In the framework of the OSCE Summit in Kazakhstan's capital city Astana, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė had bilateral meetings with the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva.
The President says one of the main goals of the meeting is to discuss ways to adapt the OSCE to the changing global environment and to provide response to new type of challenges. State leaders will also look into ways to achieve progress in resolving protracted conflicts and to improve implementation of commitments assumed by countries with respect to human rights, freedom of the press and democratic elections. "Lithuania takes over the Chairmanship of the OSCE from Kazakhstan next year. We will make active efforts to translate all goals of this Organisation into reality, to create an effective international security community built on democratic principles and free of partitions, where all commitments are honoured, human rights and fundamental freedoms are respected and any form of aggression is prevented," President Dalia Grybauskaitė said.
