The President: Strong and efficient OSCE – in the interest of the whole international community

Thursday, December 2, Astana - Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of the Republic of Lithuania, which takes over OSCE Chairmanship from Kazakhstan next year, closed the two-day OSCE Summit in Astana.

"We, OSCE countries, have a very clear goal - to build a strong and efficient security community built on democratic principles; therefore, during its chairmanship of this Organization, Lithuania will be actively seeking to reduce bureaucratic procedures in the Organization, enhance coordination of actions among member states and with other international organizations and take more concrete steps," President of the Republic of Lithuania said.

According to the President, progress in dealing with frozen conflicts, consolidation of human rights, freedom of speech and other fundamental freedoms, promotion of civil society are priorities of vital importance for the future of the OSCE.

"OSCE must also be prepared to respond to new threats. Therefore, we need to enhance open dialogue on energy security, take concrete steps to reinforce transparency in arms control, and start working on a comprehensive OSCE strategy on cyber security," the President said.
