Lithuania and Kazakhstan united by common tasks in OSCE and by prospects for bilateral relations

Wednesday, December 1, Astana - As part of the OSCE Summit in Kazakhstan's capital city Astana, President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė met with Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

As Lithuania is taking over OSCE Chairmanship from Kazakhstan next year, leaders of both states discussed priorities of this Organization, also the development of bilateral relations and the outlook for the whole region.

The President of Lithuania said she was assured by her Kazakh counterpart that his country was interested in bilateral economic cooperation and would be seeking to increase trade with Lithuania and boost mutual investments.

"We discussed the possibility to increase cargo transportation through Lithuania by container-trains to make these flows regular, also the possibility to develop logistic centers and free economic zones and implement other projects of importance to both countries. Kazakhstan is turning into the hub of the region; therefore, Lithuania, as well as other EU Member States, must explore every possibility of mutually beneficial cooperation with this country," President Dalia Grybauskaitė said.

According to the President, the victory of Lithuanian architects in the tender for theatre buildings in Astana serves as one of the successful examples of such cooperation.

The two Presidents exchanged official invitations to pay official visits to each other's countries.
